Moldva Hungarian

Our three-year project, funded by a ELKH Special Research Themes grant, started in September 2021 with a dual objective:
(i) The creation of a searchable, morphologically annotated corpus of sound-associated dialect records based on the recordings collected by ethnographer Vilmos Tánczos. A database of sound-coupled, normalised and morphologically annotated searchable phonetic records is available at: https://nlp.nytud.hu/csango/
(ii) Conducting new fieldwork with Moldavian native speakers of Hungarian and describing selected grammatical phenomena that distinguish Moldva Hungarian from common (or standard) Hungarian.
The project is carried out in the frame of a cooperation within the HUN-REN Research Centre for Linguistics between the Institute of General and Hungarian Linguistics, the Institute of Historical Linguistics and Uralistics and the Institute of Lexicology.
